Oculus Rift Pre-Orders Have Launched

The future of gaming is here! Well, of media really. Suddenly walking simulators don’t seem to plain when you really can look around inside of them. It’s been a long time coming but the general public can now order the next gen of VR gear to experience the wonders of 3D visuals taken to the next level. Priced at $600, here’s what you get with your own Oculus Rift unit!

Rift includes the headset with built-in headphones and mic, sensor, and an Xbox One controller. The controller is perfect for a variety of games, including Lucky’s Tale, the amazing VR platformer developed by Playful, that we’re including free with every Rift.

That’s right! You get a free game with the hardware! It’s like we’re back in the 90’s and a game actually comes with your new gadget! That’s not too fair since some consoles do have bundles these days, but initial releases tend to be sparse with out of the box goodies. I miss the days when the next big Mario title came with the system.

Sure, not everything supports Oculus yet but lots of content does so far or persistent modders are hard at work making that happen. There’s going to be a lot to see here and this is just the beginning of the future of VR! The first shipments are being sent out on March 28th.

Pre-orders also come with Oculus Remote.

The Oculus Remote is a new input device we designed to make it simple and intuitive to navigate VR experiences. With Remote, you can easily browse the Oculus store, explore 360 video content in Oculus Video, or experience a wide range of VR games and entertainment. It is the easiest way to introduce non-gamers to VR.

I’m eager to see what the future holds for Oculus Rift! It’s something exciting to share with everyone you know! Nintendo came close to giving gamers an experience like this with the Wii U gamepad but unfortunately that play style didn’t progress into many games beyond titles like The Legend Of Zelda: Battle Quest. Star Fox Zero may even change some of that but Oculus Rift seeks to put you in the cockpit and build the game around you. It sounds like an amazing experience and something we’re eager to see more of as demonstrations become available at conventions.

Want to jump in at launch? Pre-orders are available right here.

One Response so far.

Once again Nintendo was ahead of the curve with the Virtual Boy.
