Yes of course the title of this post isn’t the title of the game, but with the upcoming Paramount Pictures film bearing the moniker “Into Darkness” I thought it fit.<\/p>\n

The latest game-play video has been made available and is another minute of goodness.<\/p>\n

The Star Trek game<\/a> acts as a bridge between the two newest films Star Trek<\/i> and Star Trek Into Darkness<\/i>. The unique story, which hasn’t really been revealed, takes place after the events of the first movie and before the events of the second.<\/p>\n

Paramount’s Brian Miller spoke with Yahoo News about the upcoming game a few weeks ago and stated that they wanted to break the trend with movie based games. Usually a studio like Paramount would contract the work out to an outside studio to make the game, which leads to mixed results. In the case of the newest game Paramount went the opposite way.<\/p>\n

“In order to do it the right way we had to do it ourselves,” Miller told Yahoo.<\/p>\n

Star Trek<\/i> is a co-op action adventure game where the gamer gets to play as Kirk and Spock. There will be fifteen species represented in the game, including the Gorn. The game will be canon with the other films.<\/p>\n

“Personally, I was impressed with how the writers and cast from the film showed how the characters have grown since the last film,” Brian Miller stated. “It absolutely has the feel of a new chapter as opposed to just being an ‘add-on.'”<\/p>\n

All of the cast of the crew of the USS Enterprise are reprising their roles in the game, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg and Karl Urban. Not only that but the game makers have been working with all of the teams that brought the 2009 movie to the big screen, including story, art department, sound design and creature design.<\/p>\n

“We are gamers FIRST and are inspired by the same games you guys are,” Brian Miller stated. Yahoo’s Eric Pfeiffer noted the games Mass Effect, Arkham Asylum\/City and Gears of War as possible inspirations for the new Star Trek Game. Brian Miller agreed with the assessment.<\/p>\n

“In addition to what Eric mentioned, Uncharted is another game that we love because of the incredible gaming experience and story they continue to tell. Our goal was to make a great game. PERIOD. The fact that it was Star Trek was icing on the cake for us.”<\/p>\n

Star Trek the Video Game will be released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on April 23rd. Fans who pre-order the game will receive the “Elite Officer Pack” and have access to exclusive costumes and weapons for Kirk and Spock like the Kobayashi Maru costume and sniper rifle with an ammo bonus.<\/p>\n
