\nNintendo sent out a release early this morning detailing the planned discontinuation of several of their online services for the Nintendo Wii home console on June 28th. The shut down includes several features including the Forecast Channel, Everybody Votes Channel, the Nintendo Channel and and a few other things, including messaging.<\/p>\n

The news, while not entirely unexpected, is a sad day for those that use those channels.<\/p>\n

I personally haven’t used the News, Check Mii Out or Everybody Votes Channels in quite a while, though I do still check out the Nintendo Channel fairly often and still looked for new Nintendo DS demos from the download service there.<\/p>\n

We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company\u2019s products. We would like to inform you that a portion of the network services offered through the Wii console will be discontinued starting June 28, 2013.<\/p>\n

We apologize to those of you currently using these services, and ask for your understanding. The affected applications are as follows:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Forecast Channel
\n\u2022 News Channel
\n\u2022 Everybody Votes Channel
\n\u2022 Nintendo Channel
\n\u2022 Check Mii Out Channel
\n\u2022 Data exchange between Wii friends on WiiConnect24*<\/p>\n

*Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel, and exchanges of messages or data in some game titles will no longer be possible.<\/p>\n

Following the discontinuation, the above services will not be available even if they are started up on the Wii menu. However, services other than those mentioned above, such as the automatic receipt of \u201cToday\u2019s Accomplishments\u201d on the Wii Message Board and the Wii Shop Channel are unaffected and can continue to be used.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
