As if the return of Minsc and Boo wasn’t enough, though they did make an appearance in IDW’s recent Baldur’s Gate comics, there are more details here to the long time Dungeons and Dragons fan. Namely, the titular Elemental Evil reference. Though it seems be an expansion inspired by the Greyhawk campaign The Temple of Elemental Evil, the action seems to be focused on the Sword Coast where Neverwinter is based.

This doesn’t stretch Minsc and Boo too far out of their element either since Baldur’s Gate is south of Neverwinter and also located along the Sword Coast. However it should be interesting to see how they are incorporated into the story since going by unconfirmed data, Baldurs Gate took place in 1368 DR and Neverwinter seems to be based in 1479 DR. Does this mean this will be an old Minsc? Perhaps the two were brought from the past? Maybe I’m looking too much into it and it isn’t detailed in game. Still, it’s interesting info.

Fans will also note that Minsc believed his hamster travelling companion Boo was a miniature giant space hamster. These creatures do actually exist in the Spelljammer campaign setting (which aside from Dark Sun was one of my personal favorites). I don’t think it was ever confirmed one way or the other. It would be excellent for Boo to be acknowledged as such however since Spelljammer stretches between all D&D worlds. So indeed, his existence is possible.

On the Elemental Evil front, Greyhawk’s campaign was a fantastic one! Focused on a small village and of course a Temple, which was of the Elemental Evil variety, it was quite an excellent story! It should be interesting to see where this Neverwinter MMO expansion goes. That’s a lot of details all coming together into a new story.

Paladin’s will also join the fray as playable characters and the games level cap will be raised to 70. This expansion will be available on March 17th for PC.
