Nintendo released their global sales today. The good news is that net and ordinary income is in the green at ¥8.62 billion ($88.1 million). Also 3DS sales were strong last quarter. The bad news is that Wii U sales were on the opposite end if the sales spectrum.

The 3DS was the best selling hardware in the United States for the past two months and the system continues to show strong performance across the world. In the quarter ending June 30, 2013, 1.4 million handhelds were sold.

The Wii U continues to struggle however. The system has sold only 160,000 consoles worldwide over the same three month period, with total worldwide sales reaching 3.61 million. First-party software sales only reached just over to 1 million units for the Wii U.

As a sales comparison, sales for a Japanese only 3DS release has outperformed that number. Tomodachi Collection, a 3DS title released online in Japan in April, has sold nearly 1.4 million units. Nintendo also reported that the 210,000 Wii units were sold worldwide during the same quarter.

Nintendo hasn’t changed their sales forecast for the year of 900,000 Wii U units and 1.8 million 3DS handhelds. Their income forecast is set at at ¥55 billion net income ($563.3 million) at the end of the current fiscal year.
