IMPRESSIONS: Ever Oasis

Nintendo’s action-RPG Ever Oasis is about to bloom on the 3DS and based on the demo released last week it’s a pretty fun little title to play.

The game is developed by Grezzo, the studio that rebuilt multiple Legend of Zelda games for the Nintendo 3DS, and producer/director Koichi Ishii, creator of the Mana series. Ever Oasis offers a unique mix of oasis building and dungeon exploration.

In the game your oasis in the desert is the last safe haven. As you progress you’ll try to draw in visiors to call your oasis home, thus growing and expanding your oasis with the help of the water spirit Esna. The larger your oasis becomes, the more visitors that will arrive. You will need to complete a variety of quests to recruit new villagers, each with their own unique weapons and skills.

Though there is only a small taste of it in the demo, you can rotate rotate between three party members when you venture outside of your oasis, each with their own skills and strengths. You will battle against many foes of Chaos threatening peace in the desert in real-time combat.

The game is filled with perilous desert, deep caves and puzzling dungeons. Some of the puzzles in the various dungeons can only be solved through the skills of different characters, so that may mean going back to a dungeon more than once to discover all that is inside. The allies special skills level up as they explore the desert and dungeons alongside of you.

When visitors make your oasis their home they may set up and build shops called Bloom Booths. These give you even more resources to build up your oasis even more.

The demo was very short and there wasn’t a whole lot to see and do, however it was good at giving you a taste of not only helping visitors but also expanding the oasis, exploring the overworld, battling enemies, exploring a dungeon, and taking on a boss. The battle system is very simplistic and easy to get into.

A downloadable demo from Nintendo eShop is available.

Ever Oasis will be released for the Nintendo 3DS on Thursday but the demo is now available in the Nintendo eShop.
